Family Camping fun by the river or lake in Lot
The rivers Lot or Dordogne flow gently near the campsites and provide most of the fun to be had in the water. There’s supervised bathing and lots of facilities on the River Lot beach near Cahors. The Lac Vert lake in Catus is a great place for families, with shaded, grassy areas for a picnic and pedalos, a basketball court and football area for the kids. For a great day out on the water go to Caix Base Nautique in Luzech. Hire a boat, canoe or swim then have a lazy lunch at the restaurant. Further north by the river Dordogne lies Lake Tauriac. 3 acres of lovely leisure, where you can relax and swim. Kids can whizz down waterslides and have a blast in the playground. Feeling thirsty? Outdoor Activities near your campsite in Lot
Lot has some of the loveliest countryside in France and is a real paradise for outdoor lovers. Cycle along the Véloroute along the river Lot from your campsite to the vineyards of Château Eugénie in Rivière Haute. Hike or horse ride through the magnificent Regional Natural Park of the Causses de Quercy. Mountain bike through the beautiful forest of Grésigne and spot deer, boar, eagles and woodpeckers. Take a boat trip on the river Lot, kayak through the impressive Lot Valley, fish for Carp near Puy -l'Évêque or wild trout further north in Ségala. For some of the most picturesque canoeing in the region head north to Montvalent or Pinsac and paddle past fairytale scenery, steep cliffs, quaint little villages and elegant castles.
City trips near your campsite in Lot
The largest town in Lot near your campsite is the magnificent medieval town of Cahors. Wander the narrow old streets, past half- timbered wooden houses and admire the beautiful gothic Cathédrale St-Étienne and the famous 14th century bridge Pont Valentre. Then relax by the river for lunch with a spectacular view across the Lot. Head south to Agen in Lot-et-Garonne to see the marvelous fine art museum Musée des Beaux-Arts and the colourful 19th-century frescoes of Saint-Caprais Cathedral. Want to enjoy a delightful lunch in one of the area’s most welcoming town squares? Then go to Montauban in nearby Tarn-et-Garonne. Soak up the atmosphere and views of the Episcopal Palace, and Church of Saint-Jacques, then take a lovely stroll along the wooded river banks of the Tarn. Want to combine your sight-seeing with some shopping then visit Sarlat-la-Canéda close by in the Dordogne and drop in on its marvelous and popular markets.
Things to see and do near the campsite in Lot
There are some truly magical places to visit in Lot, not far from your campsite. Visit the medieval Saint-Cirq Lapopie. It sits on a cliff almost 100 metres above the river Lot and is considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in France. Cave enthusiasts head for The Gouffre de Padirac to see underground pools and stalactite formations and the Pech Merle in Cabrerets for the amazing prehistoric cave paintings. For history and art lovers the delightful town of Figeac is a must. Stop at the wonderful Champollion museum to learn all about the history of writing with its exhibition about famous hieroglyphs decoder Jean-François Champollion. For that perfect postcard picture photograph go to Rocamadour, not far from the campsites in northern Lot. This stunning sacred town and popular pilgrimage site literally clings to the cliffs. Climb the imposing Grand Escalier staircase to the 15th century Chapelle Notre-Dame and be amazed by the legend of St. Amadour.
