Holidays are all about creating beautiful memories and discovering new experiences – but they can also leave a mark on the planet. At Vacansoleil, we’re committed to keeping that mark as small as possible. We team up with eco-certified partners, support green initiatives, and promote more sustainable ways to travel. Here, you’ll discover how we – together with our partners – make holidays that are good for you and for the world we share.
Eco-labels explained
EU Ecolabel
This European label is awarded to accommodations that meet strict criteria in areas such as water and energy management, waste reduction, the use of environmentally friendly products, guest awareness, and support for local biodiversity. It has been recognised by all European Union countries since 1992.
Green Key
An international eco-label for sustainable accommodations such as hotels, campsites, and other tourism businesses. It focuses on environmental responsibility, energy efficiency, water management, waste management, and guest education.
An environmentally-friendly holiday, where do you start?
Did you know that tourism is responsible for 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions – you know, those gases that warm up our planet – a real hot potato! Good news, we can take action by, for example, taking the train or booking climate-conscious accommodations. But even at your holiday destination, you can significantly reduce your footprint. Here are 8 small tips that can make a big difference.
- Buy local
Bread, wine, fruit, vegetables… By buying local products, you support the community and reduce transport and imports. Explore the local market and discover fresh flavours! - Choose local restaurants
Nothing gives you a more authentic holiday feeling than dining in a cosy local restaurant. Enjoy delicious regional dishes, soak up the atmosphere, and support the local economy. - Save energy and water
Switch off the air conditioning when you go out, don’t let the tap run unnecessarily, and be mindful of your energy use. In short: act as if you were at home. 😉 - Sort your waste according to local rules
Follow the recycling guidelines provided and take your waste to your accommodation’s collection point. This keeps your holiday spot clean and protects the environment.
- Do not leave any waste on the beach
Every year, tonnes of rubbish still end up in our oceans. Don’t leave anything behind and help keep the sea free from plastic. - Protect wildlife
Enjoy nature respectfully: stay on marked paths, don’t pick flowers or plants, and don’t take stones or fossils home (often prohibited). - Travel environmentally responsible
Whenever possible, choose the train or bus. Travelling by car? Use public transport at your destination or rent a bike – it’s healthy and fun! - Travel Light
The less luggage you take, the more energy-efficient your journey will be. A lighter suitcase means lower CO₂ emissions. Good vibes, however, are unlimited baggage!
