                      Family Camping fun by the river in The Loire

                      Although the nearest sea near Nantes is a 2 hour drive from your campsite by Angers, France’s longest river has a lot of great swimming spots. Take a dip in Le plan d'eau du Millocheau, a fantastic man-made lake by the Loire in Saumur. It’s a fun and safe place for kids to play. Cool off in the lakes by Charlemagne Island in Saint-Jean-le-Blanc, near Orléans., a lovely spot for swimming, canoeing and windsurfing. Fancy a picnic in a park with a beautiful lake? Head for the Lac de Maine by the edge of Angers. For a truly scenic swim go to Lac Joyeux in Langeais near Tours. This fabulous lake is set deep in the heart of some stunning Loire countryside not far from your campsite.   

                      City trips near your campsite in The Loire

                      The Loire Valley has some wonderful places to visit near your campsite. Tours is famous for its fabulous food. Head for the beautiful Place Plumereau with its ancient half-timbered townhouses for a long lazy lunch. Art and culture lovers visit the wonderful city of Argens to admire the beautiful 14th century tapestry Tenture de l’Apocalypse in the medieval château. When in Saumur, a trip to the wonderful Chateau de Saumur and the Cadre Noir, France’s national equestrian school, is a must. Orléans is the capital of the Loire. Admire the 17th century gothic style Cathedrale Ste-Croix, then stop at the house of Joan of Arc for a fascinating history lesson about the city’s famous adopted daughter.

Go horse riding around the most famous Loire castles and trek past vineyards and through lush forests. The Loire is pure heaven for fishermen. Its waters rich with carp, trout perch & pike. Perfect for a BBQ dinner back at the campsite. For a truly spectacular day outdoors, let a pack of Siberian huskies lead you though the glorious Loire countryside on a kart.

                      Whatever campsite you stay at in the Loire, there will be a magnificent castle for you to admire close by. Witness the Renaissance majesty of Chateau de Chambord, the elaborate gardens of Château de Chaumont, the fine arts of Château Royal de Blois and the royal romance of Château de Chenonceau. Visiting with kids? Then the impressive Forteresse Du Faucon Noir in Montbazon is the perfect way to give the kids a little fun culture and history. Storytellers in costumes make sure they have a blast. Go to Amboise to see the incredible replicas of Leonardo de Vinci’s inventions in Clos Luce. See the spectacular Cadre Noir cavalry horse show in Saumur and be amazed at the incredible horsemanship. Wine buffs head for Sancerre. Some consider it to be France’s finest wine region. For something a little different, take a trip back in time and visit the Cave dwellings in the Village Troglodyte de Rochemenier.
