            Family Camping fun by the lake or river in Jura

            A camping holiday in Jura is a nature lovers dream come true. The campsites are right by a lake or a river. Sail, swim, windsurf, canoe or waterski on Lake Clairvaux. Ride a pedalo, splash about with the kids or simply lounge in the sun by the shores of Lake Chalain. The Rivers Ain and Loue flow past the campsite and are gentle and peaceful, so perfect for family fun. Hire a kayak and explore the area from the water. For a more tranquil pastime bring your rod and head for the river Loue, which has some of the best fly fishing in France.             Looking for a day of culture near your campsite? Then visit the city of Besancon and its Musée de Beaux Art to admire the magnificent works of Renoir, Matisse, Rubens, Rembrandt and Goya. Although Dijon is famed for its mustard, this lovely old city is a must for wine lovers as it’s part of the Burgundy wine route. It’s beautifully restored medieval centre is picture postcard perfect. Drive past the forests, rivers and vineyards of the Doubs valley to the delightful city of Dole. The centre of the old town is dominated by the stunning 16th century Collégiale Notre Dame, a collegiate church. The magnificent Swiss city of Geneva is slightly further afield, but the journey through the stunning Haut-Jura Natural Regional Park make it unforgettable. Spend the day by the impressive Lake Geneva, have a lovely lunch, then make sure you bring back some delicious Favarger chocolate to your campsite.

            Outdoor Activities near your campsite in Jura

            Jura is a real paradise for outdoor activities. There are so many to choose from near your campsite. The area is perfect for some great cycling or mountain biking. Hike through the woods and hills in the wonderful wilderness of Les Rousses. Do some rock climbing or canyoning in Saint- Claude or simply enjoy a lovely swim in Lake Clairvaux. Want a birds eye view of the area? Go to Monnières and take to the skies in a hot air balloon. For something truly unique, head for Ponthoux and go on a husky led sledge ride through the beautiful countryside. Time to give the kids a treat? Take them to the wonderful Jura Monkey Forest for some adrenaline filled fun in the tree top adventure park in Doucier.

            Things to see and do near the campsite in Jura

            Visit the pretty medieval city of Arbois to admire its gorgeous 13th-century church, the Eglise Saint-Just. Drop in at the old laboratory of Louis Pasteur to see where the famous scientist discovered his pasteurization process . For another slice of history head for Salins-les-Bains to see the fascinating 13th century underground chambers of the towns old salt mines. The charming old town of Ornans is nicknamed the little Venice of France-Comté and has beautiful ancient houses sat on stilts by River Loue. Admire the view from the Grand Pont bridge, then stop for a lazy lunch by the water. Families with young children go to Parc Animalier du Herisson in Menétrux-en-Joux. It’s a lovely low key zoo, by a small lake, with lamas, wolves, yaks, goats, horses, boar and falcons. Kids can help feed the animals and it’s a great spot for some lunch.
