Drive into the interior, just southwest of Rennes and explore the Arthurian legends that rest in the lush green forest of Paimpont. This used to be the enchanted forest of Brocéliande, where Merlin the magician lived. For those looking for a slightly faster pace, head to the vibrant and exciting cities of Rennes, Brest or Nantes. From Rennes to Locunolé and Carantec
Brittany has a long, rich history and has plenty to offer culturally. Quimper, the oldest town in Brittany, is famed for its the Festival de Cornouaille, a celebration of Breton music and traditions in July. Rennes, the capital, hosts the famous Fort la Latte, built in the 13th century. Carnac is said to be the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in Europe and fans of ancient monuments should visit Carantec, home to Europe’s oldest and largest Megalithic mausoleum, the Cairn of Barnenez.
