The most popular areas in this part of the Provence are Gorges du Verdon, the Grand Canyon du Verdon and the Lac de Sainte Croix. However, don't miss out on a visit to the pretty town of Castellane. It was strategically built on the crossing of the river Verdon and the N85, also known as the Route de Napoleon. The town is dominated by a large calcareous rock known locally as Le Roc. It is 900m high and the top has a plateau of almost 650m˛. The 'Alpes de Haute Provence' is an impressive area and the Mediterranean is not far away either.
