The Giant Mountains are along the Polish and Czech borders until the mid-point with Germany. Nowadays, a large part of this region is a nature reserve, like the rocky 'Bohemian Paradise'. This is where the tree line starts and the region offers a wide choice of walking routes, mountain biking and other outdoor activities. Another benefit of visiting the area is that lovely food and drink can be enjoyed at reasonable prices.

• There are many caves, lakes and rivers in the surrounding area, one of which is the source of the Elbe. Around 5km away you'll find a lake with a sandy beach.
• 15km away you'll find the city of Liberec, which today is a centre of crystal craftsmanship but it has been a well-known trading centre since medieval times.
• Around 100km to the south is the Czech capital of Prague and you can join a guided bus trip to this lovely city from the camps
